Guidelines for Creation of Content

  • Subject headings should be selected from the provided dropdown menu.
  • The minimum number of subject headings is three. Indexers must select one heading for each university team playing in the game depicted in the photo, and at least one other subject heading describing the action(s) or event(s) occurring in the photo.
  • Steps to follow for indexing:
    1. Identify the team names.
    2. Determine who has possession of the ball.
    3. Add one or more descriptive terms to express the events in the image
  • Indexers should choose the most specific subject heading possible. The Notes section below contains links to glossaries of football terminology. If a subject heading is needed that is not listed in the vocabulary, the indexer can contact Carol Vinzant or Ben Steck. We will contact the indexer when the appropriate heading has been added to the vocabulary.

Examples

  • This is what the indexer should follow
  1. Team names - eg. University of Alabama, University of Texas
  2. Who is in possession of the ball - eg. Possession--University of Alabama
  3. Subject term(s) the convey what is taking place in the image - eg. Field Goal, Running Play

Notes

The subject heading for Possession includes an indication of which team has physical possession of the football (e.g., Possession--University of Alabama). If the indexer is unable to discern who has possession, this heading may be left out.
